Wow the summer when fast! This week was the first week back to University! I started again on Monday, and even though it is only Tuesday, I was up in my room doing some work to make sure I don't fall behind in my studies, can you believe it only the second day and I'm spending hours doing school work! Hahah. Due to the fact that the Canada Games were here on the Island, University started a week later, and the campus looks great! My classes seem exciting! So far I was only in 4 classes out of five, on one night of the week I have a three hour class, at least it's only one night! My life at University consists of only one building. Instead of me walking all through the campus to get to my different classes I only have to be in one building! That is only because I am going to major in English and all my courses are found in the Arts building!
Not only did University start back up, so is GEMS (Girls Everywhere Meeting the Saviour). It is an all girls youth group for grades 3-8. I have volunteered for the past three years, and am now a counsellor. Tonight is the first night! I am excited for this year because my best friend and partner in crime (we are teaching a class together) get to do skits together. They are pretty funny too! I am excited for this year not only for the skits but the fact that each year God seems to give me awesome girls! We all got along last year, when I left to go on a trip with my family and missed only three nights of this youth group the girls from my class told me that I was not allowed to leave them again, it was quite cute.
Ever notice how hard it is to get younger kids to listen to you when you are trying to either do a lesson or even talk to them? Well I found a solution..... Briber! It actually works quite well. Every week just before we start the lesson I pull out some candy, yes I did just say candy, and set it out in the middle of the table or on the floor (in a container of course) and tell the girls that they can have some candy only if they listen and participate in the lesson! It always worked! So this year I am going to do the same, and since I have the same girls they should all be familiar with how my teaching works!
I am excited for this year. Not just becasue of GEMS or University (i'm not too excited about that) but I was talking to the right hand man for PEI's Premier Robert Ghiz. about going to schools and talking to girls between the ages of grade 7-12 about how it is your personality and what is inside that matters most, not the outward appearance. I would be talking to the girls about my expirence with bullying and how it affected my life, I would also tell them what being Miss Teen PEI did for me and how my family friends and boyfriend helped me believe in myself and changed the way I thought about myself. My goal is to at least affect on girls life positively! It would be an amazing opportunity to talk to girls and tell them my story!
Miss Teen PEI really has done a lot for me and I want to give back. I want to help other girls realize the potential they have and what it feels like to believe in yourself and believe that you are beautiful inside and out. Every girl struggles with this concept. Girls are so hard on themselves!
So that is my life so far in one post. I will try and keep up with posting but I can see that now that my schedual is becoming more and more packed it may be hard!
One more thing my birthday is coming so soon. I will be turning 19 in exactually 9 days September 24th! I am pretty excited I mean who doesn't love birthdays! :)
